Aug. 10, 2010 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) -- Hemophiliacs now have a new way of administering medicine to control and prevent bleeding episodes.
Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) Inc. announced Monday that regulators granted approval of the company's pre-filled, dual-chamber syringe for use in dispensing its drug Xyntha. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration agreed to allow the new treatment option for patients with hemophilia A, an inherited disease that keeps blood from clotting in the normal way. Continue Reading

U.S. Inaction Lets Look-Alike Tubes Kill PatientsAugust 21st, 2010 - New York TimesThirty-five weeks pregnant, Robin Rodgers was vomiting and losing weight, so her doctor hospitalized her and ordered that she be fed through a tube until the birth of her daughter.
But in a mistake that stemmed from years of lax federal oversight of medical devices, the hospital mixed up the tubes. Instead of snaking a tube through Ms. Rodgers' nose and into her stomach, the nurse instead coupled the liquid-food bag to a tube that entered a vein.
